I have been working on Winter Day project during my numerous cross country skiing trips at different Czech mountains – Jizerské hory, Krušné hory, Krkonoše and Jeseníky between the years of 2013-2018. The photographs document the cross country skiing comunity, its impact on the landscape and hopefully the feelings it brings to the people involved.
The name of this project refers to one of the books from Japanese haiku master Matsuo Basho. My photographic approach was influenced by haiku principles since I consider them to be very similar to those I want to present visually.
„The essence of haiku is to use ordinary words but at the same time not to fall to the ordineriness. Try not to be a part of the ordineriness, yet to make use of it. This is extremely difficult task for most of us.“ (Matsuo Basho)
